More Cornwall Than Ever

I think we saw quite a lot of Poldark territory today, because we came across the Geevor Tin Mine, which is known to be Poldark-ish. Also, we sat in the top of another open double decker bus, and took in the entire peninsula. We rode from St Ives to Zennor, Pendeen, St Just, Cape Cornwall, Sennen Cove, Sennen, LANDS END, Treen, Porthcurno, Mousehole, Newlyn, Penzance, Marazion, and then back again to St Ives. If you wonder how it was that we were not bus-sick on those weavy, turny, sway-ee roads, well it is all down to the right medication.

There were a lot of highlights, but for me maybe the highest of them was the stop at Lands End where you could see forever across the ocean (or was it the English Channel?). We saw the Lands End sign that shows you the mileage to New York (3,147 miles), the Isles of Scilly (28), John O'Groats, the northern most tip of Scotland (874), and your own home town - if you are willing to pay for that bit. We didn't. But we had a nice cup of tea and a peanut butter sandwich while waiting for the next hop-on-hop-off open topped bus. It was splendid.

While riding through all of this amazing countryside, and seeing the amazing sites as they flashed by, we could not help but think of something else. Something we did not want to think about but just could not ignore. The train taking them away, tomorrow.

The week has been full, and busy, and beautiful; getting to know new people, and revisiting the already-known; eating great food, and writing postcards to our little ones. All of this will go down in the annals of history we don't want to forget, and probably never will.

But even with unwelcome goodbyes there will be new and other things to do and to love. Friends coming; Oxford waiting; changeover day to new digs; watching more of 'Yes, Minister' (hahaha! I'm already laughing).

I can hardly wait to hear what Hacker has to say to Sir Humphrey, and what outrageous tidbit Sir Humphrey will convey back. No one does outrageous like Nigel Hawthorne. You should see it, really. You can't beat it. You won't even want to try.

See you along the way!
