In The Grand Scheme

It is great fun every morning to wake up and peek out to see if anyone else is up yet. If they are, I can say "Good morning!" and find out if they slept agreeably. If they aren't up yet, I can put the kettle on, make tea, and wait for them to make their appearance so that I can say "Good morning!" and find out if they slept agreeably. Every part of this, however it happens and in whatever sequence, is terrific and always ends well. It is lovely having them here.

And it is terrific having someone to go to church with, because church is so much nicer and more pleasant when one is not alone in it. This isn't a requirement, but just a nice thing when a loved one, or ones, come along. We had a wonderful service and were only sorry about one thing: two people said things to us personally about American 'politics', and made it so that our tea and biscuits stopped tasting nice. I like keeping politics away from my thoughts, inside or outside of church, and so this part of today, only, felt sad.

It is grand having a sister to walk with me up steep hills in the sunshine toward the town of Zennor, which is much farther than we had thought it would be. But on we bravely walked, up, up, and more, until it became so warm that we had to turn around and go back. I never thought being too warm would be a problem in Cornwall, but even Cornwall can sizzle when it wants to.

Then, it is lovely fun to cook meals with people who like to cook and who like to eat, and then to do the washing up and making nice pots of tea together, after. This might be followed by a discussion of one's children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, and others, all of whom are shared loves and extremely important. Yes, this kind of conversation may be the best thing of all because we know each other, and all of them, so well.

In fact, loved ones being in Cornwall makes everything heavenly. I can't think of any part of this equation that has a down side. And even though a touch of sadness broke through for just those few moments, we can forgive it and try again tomorrow.

Because in the grand scheme of things, politics compare very poorly with Love.

See you along the Way!

  1. Bringing 'politics' into that close conversation, is like bringing a turnip into a sweet popcorn ball gift exchange. He earned the turnip!
