My Little Miss

The SconeLady loves finding something exceptional when she is in England. Part of any trip must be spent seeking out that oh-so-special item that her three darlings will adore. It can't be just any old thing such as a Red Phone Booth key chain (although now that I think of it, they just might love), or a Tower Of London designer flag (ummm, these three just might find that of interest.. I'd probably better get back over there).

Some past finds (spanning the years of both children and grandchildren) may have been:

  • a bag of London wooden figurines
  • a Cadbury's Milk Bar
  • a British Airways toy plane that stays on a table no matter how fast you make it go
  • a London Taxi model with the British flag on top
  • a Mini Cooper with the British flag on top
  • a miniature red double decker bus
  • a stuffed Paddington Bear
  • anything Pooh

What I love about these three treasures is that they love EVERYTHING. Any piece of fun brought back by Grandma garners squeals, shouts, and high praise for the bearer.

Arriving at LAX was exciting this time because I had something so especially special, and couldn't wait. The excitement built on both sides until at long last, my airport shuttle arrived. All kinds of noises and children poured forth from the house. Shrieks. Wild applause. Happy welcomes! Oh, the joy. And no one even asked about what might be lurking within the bags cast to the floor in all the ruckus.

But finally the SconeLady rummaged through the chaos and brought forth three tiny books. Books from England. Books such as only a Brit would dream of/write/design/color. They were the 'Little Miss/Little Men' books. For our little Miss who loves all things princess, I chose 'Little Miss Princess'.

The story inside was so sweet and so funny that our small girl couldn't help but giggle helplessly. This is because the sense of humor within a British-authored book is unique and funny and just-so-rare. There is a depth to it. Our little princess is still enjoying it, and hopes some day to find other such Little Miss books to peruse.

The SconeLady will be returning to the land of humor (oh - I mean humour) soon. She will once again scour the shops, trod the streets, and scheme to find the just perfect item for three very interested little American/Brits. One never tires of such an enterprise.

And one never, ever tires of the prospect of ever more visits to that United, even Magical, Kingdom.

See you along the way!
the SconeLady
