Downton Abbey Loves a Secret

DA Undercover

We are now happily and deeply into episode 5, whereupon anything might happen at the Abbey.

But first, did I tell you how much we here at SconeTherapy like and appreciate Mr. Molesley? We even like the music that plays whenever he appears onscreen. It lifts our spirits in the midst of other more dastardly news on the tele.

This week Molesley has appeared onscreen in order to check with Mr. Carson about a job - again. But Carson is staunch that Molesley shall not have it, thank you very much. So poor Molesley! But hooray for Mrs. Hughes and Mrs. Patmore, who come to the rescue and concoct a plan to ease Molesley back into the corral that is Downstairs at Downton Abbey.

So with Mr. Molesley safely back, we might concentrate on what on earth has been happening with Edith (a deep secret). And my conjecture may be coming true! The conjecture was not a misconception (do please excuse the pun) and there may be a third baby in the Downton nursery one day. One question I have, though, about the Downton nursery is just how little that nursery sees of its grandmothers. If those children were my grandchildren, wild beasts could not keep me from them. But mostly the parents and grandparents here seem to sip tea or discuss pig-raising instead of holding and loving on those babies. Hmm.

We were also happy to see Anna speaking (some) truth to Bates about her attack - after Mrs. Hughes had spilled (some) of the beans. So Anna and Bates can go back to talking, going out for dinner, and trying to rebuild (some) of their togetherness. Well ok, some things take time.

For the rest:

-I am happy for Alfred and his future but wish he would stay at Downton Abbey.

-I do not care about the tiff between Daisy and - the other maid whose name I cannot now remember (is it Gwen or Ethyl..?).

-I can't wait for Iain Glen to make his appearance as Sir Richard Carlisle.

-I can't believe that Lord Grantham is the same man who was hapless Bernie on Notting Hill the movie.

-I liked that Isobel proved a point with the Dowager Countess.

-I was thrilled that the Dowager Countess had the last word over Isobel.*

And so there, once again, you have it. The tension builds. Up and Down become ever more blurred in the world of Lords and Ladies. And we will just have to wait for further developments upon which swain will at last win the heart of Lady Mary.

See you along the way!
the SconeLady

* Isobel: "Oh, how you hate to be wrong."
The Dowager Countess: "I wouldn’t know; I’ve never experienced the sensation."
