Is St Ives on Your Bucket List?

I follow a family on Instagram who apparently goes around the world checking things off their bucket lists. I like following them because every place they go is drop dead gorgeous, and there is no rain or wind or splashing water that makes their shoes go squish. They never get cross, and always have makeup on and the children don't ever fight. It's fascinating.

This family on Instagram has a HUGE bucket list, far bigger than mine would be, if I had one, which I don't, but if you could force me into making one, if you shoved the pen into my hand and stuck a piece of lined paper right in front of me and pointed at it, the list would be woefully short. In fact, it would contain one simple thing. My darling St Ives.

I don't think this family has St Ives on their bucket list, at least I haven't seen it there yet. But if they did have it, I feel sure they would be quite wonderfully happy. They could spend most of their year planning and choosing cottages and walking miles a day here, preparing their bodies to walk miles there, and finding the cheapest flights, and inviting loved ones to come along, and dream of the blue skies and green fields and perfect black and white cows and bulls, and make plans to see the Cornish friends you have made, and grown to love.

Maybe St Ives doesn't fit into their bucket list expectations because there will probably be rather a lot of splashing rainwater and squishing shoes. This kind of thing does put some people off. But it shouldn't. The Brits themselves have the right attitude towards it. Just today, the man who sold us a coffee grinder said right out loud that the weather in Cornwall is ALWAYS GOOD. He winked as he said it, but I got the picture.

My one qualm about this is my hair. I like it to look reasonably good and stay looking reasonably good for the day. I've had to give up on this already, dear Readers. It's been only one day, and you should just see it. Blond dreadlocks! What a fright. I should fit right in on Halloween night.

See you along the way!
